[edit] Description
Using beautiful watercolour imagery and the Rider Waite tradition, the Legend: Arthurian Tarot explores the legends and romances of King Arthur, Merlin, Avalon, and more through the Tarot. Every card is fully illustrated, each one depicting a scene, event, or character from Arthurian legend. Using Celtic myth, early chroniclers, medieval romances, and more recent tales of the Holy Grail, Ferguson brings together many differing strands of the Arthurian legends in the deck.
Wands become Spears and Pentacles Shields, to better fit the deck's theme, and the Devil cards has been changed to "The Horned One" - Cernunnos of Pan-Celtic origin. Pages are removed from their traditional role as messengers and instead become animals that exemplify their suit, e.g. Page of Cups is the Salmon. The images in the cards attempt to convey both the card meanings and the story/character depicted within them.
The Legend: Arthurian Tarot can be purchased as a deck on its own, or as a deck/book package. The accompanying book, "A Keeper of Words", looks in-depth at the nature of Tarot, the nature of the Arthurian legends, and the cards themselves, telling the stories associated with each card as well as detailing their meanings and symbolism. The book also provides the reader with a few spreads and information on how to consult the Tarot for divination.
